Uzbekistan’ tourism potential

Every year around one million tourists visit Uzbekistan. Meanwhile 60 % travelers to Uzbekistan arrive from European Union, 25 % tourists’ visit Uzbekistan from Asia and America and only 15% travelers come from Commonwealth of Independent States. Uzbek government is trying to balance these statistics and want to attract more tourists from CIS countries as well as from other Asian states.

Organizers of the press conference at the embassy of Uzbekistan in Moscow presented the ways of Future developments and cooperation in tourism industry between two countries. Presently, over 400 private tourism related companies operate in Uzbekistan. Over 240 hotels are ready to accommodate travelers, which includes 120 hotels with 3, 4, 5 stars. In 2010 it is planned to open 56 hotels in Uzbekistan with 2100 beds.

Government of Uzbekistan is improving infrastructure on main tourist routes and increasing the quantity of camping. The ambassador of the republic of Uzbekistan in Russia Mr. Ilkhomjon Nematov emphasized that within the political frames of Uzbekistan governmental institutions are devoting high attention to develop and create all necessary conditions to make Uzbekistan more competitive in tourism market.

The president of Russian Union Tourism industry Mr. Sergey Shpilko noted that one of the priority puzzles to involve more tourists from Russia is to develop air flights and other transport means between two countries.   It is also important to promote Uzbekistan’s tourism for young generation of Russian. They do not have enough information about Uzbekistan as well its touristic potential.
